1. Overstated expectations of growth – he felt that he would be an “overnight sensation” because he’s heard stories of how people make tons of revenue in what seems like a very small period of time. This is NOT normal of ANY business, contrary to all the hype. Building a successful MLM business is like planting a seed in the dirt; you can’t plant the seed and then stand over it demanding that it grow. It has to take root, and you have to provide the food and care to make sure it doesn’t die in the soil. It’s not smart to have the get-rich-quick mindset; it takes TIME to build a successful company, and there’s nothing you can do about that but cultivate patience and the right behaviors.

2. Inconsistent activity – he had not developed a schedule of planned activities for his network marketing business success. He just did whatever he could with whatever extra time he could come up with. That’s totally amateurish. Developing “office hours” is pivotal to building consistency, and that can’t be taken lightly. He planted the “seed,” now he needed to organize a regularly scheduled “watering.” If over the course of a week you only have 7-10 hours available, that needs to be a specific, targeted, pre-arranged, and non-negotiable time towards growing your company. Don’t make excuses because, if this were your occupation, you wouldn’t make excuses; or you would be unemployed. Punch in, do what you have to do, and punch out.

3. No tracking – he wasn’t keeping track on phone calls, appointments, emails, etc. No company that is interested in genuine sustainable success makes this mistake. Keeping “stats” is central to being able to measure where your strengths and weaknesses are. Most business owners haven’t figured out what their ratios are. Take a peak at this following ratio: 194:13. This is my stat for leads:conversions over the previous 30 days. I know that for ever 14 leads I acquire through my marketing, I’ll convert 1 to a business owner. My goal is to improve my stats by keeping track of everything from articles, emails, videos, phone calls, etc. It doesn’t have to be a mystery as to what it takes to get your company to the next level. “Keeping stats” is what you need in order to find out.

Just because you’re working your MLM enterprise part-time doesn’t mean that you’re excused from being a professional. Take a second look at your commitments to make sure that you’re not fooling yourself and organize yourself for success.

1. Not Focusing Too Much Attention on the Product. Not even if they are the best on the market.


We are trained to believe that the goods we can access are the best on the market. Therefore, everyone would want them.


Based on my experience in mlm, I do not think this is true.


In reality customers do not purchase products simply because we (network marketers) tell them that it is the best. Even if we personally had favorable results using the products. It takes a lot more than just that.


Furthermore, today the mlm industry is not a respectable business venture. Why is this?


Because of the poor prospecting strategies we use when selling our mlm opportunity.Here is an example.


I was invited to a meeting once by a network marketer. But his methods were so sneaky that I refused.


Here is what he did. He approached me and said, I have a business proposition for you but I cannot tell you what it is right now. However, I will explain everthing tomorrow at 7:30P.M.


I was so amazed that I did not know what to think. Then he continued by asking if he should book a seat for me at XYZ Hotel.


His network marketing strategy was unprofessional. I was convinced that his business was drugs or something illegal.


And unfortunately, this is the exact view many hold towards mlm. I guess the industry needs more professionalism.


And that brings us to my next point. Network Marketing is Not for Everyone.


Many consultants or IBOs believe that mlm can work for anyone. But the fact is not everyone can own and control a successful business, whether it is mlm or a traditional business.


Furthermore, not everyone wants to be business owners. Some people are quite happy as employees.


Sure, being an employee has its disadvantages. But some workers are comfortable trading time for money and would not give that up to become a network marketer or any other type of business owner.


Moreover, there are people who get into network marketing to get rich quick. They are the worst downlines you can ever have and should be avoided.


Then there are those who do mlm because they are buying hope. This means that they are not interested in learning to win at business but are relying on luck. They too should also be avoided.

1. The number one reason they all gave for their success was they followed a proven system. The problem is, that its human nature to want to put our mark on everything we touch, so many new distributors go wrong by trying to reinvent the wheel by doing things differently, they think they are smarter than anyone else. Successful people find someone who is successful and they follow and learn form them and follow a proven system.

2. The number two reason for their success was they didn’t quit, unfortunately a lot of people quit before they become successful. One successful person was interviewed, he had been in the business for 7 years, but for the first three years he said he had nobody in his down line at all, in his 3rd year it finally clicked and after 5-7years developed $80 per month residual income. Unfortunately most people don’t understand the nature of network marketing. What happens is “Most people over estimate what they can do in a year, but they underestimate what they can do in 10 years” and 90% quit before their first year the advice is just give it some time.

3. They all felt that their success was down to being fishers not hunters. There is a difference in the philosophy is how they engage with people. A hunter is overly aggressive; if we can use the analogy of an animal it knows when it’s being hunted, so it runs in the other direction. The animal doesn’t want to die so they run from you, its human nature to run away from danger. Successful people fish for people rather than hunting them. When you fish for an animal the animal comes to you, in hunting the animal always dies! At least with fishing you can catch and then throw it back!

4. Attract others to you, gaining influence in your circle of influence and building a network. This is what makes a successful fisherman? You have to go where there are fish, go to places with lots of people and go where the fish are hungry! Some people are not successful because they find someone who has no interest what so ever and decide they have got to get this person to try their business, they become the hunter and the poor ‘prospect’ runs away. It could just mean that they are just not hungry at that time. If you come back later they might bite and they might want your help. The successful understand that they are the bait! You are the bait if some one wants to buy something or you are educating them, they are buying you. They are not buying the product, the compensation plan they are buying you. If you are not the right kind of bait that they are attracted too, they will never buy your products or join your business.

5. Successful people understand it’s about presentation. How do the successful people you know present themselves, are they polished? Do they learn what they need to learn about how to present the business, is the sales low pressure or high pressure.

6 Successful people get out there, they get, on the phone, they talk to their team and new prospects every day. It’s obviously not easy and it’s going to be difficult as some people are going to say no to you. The Network Marketing business is a flexible business it’s but it takes good old fashioned hard work.
