In order to be successful in Network Marketing you must make a 1 year commitment! Patience is the key. It takes about 1 year before true “Geometric Progression” begins to take place.

A geometric progression is a sequence, such as the numbers 1, 5, 25, 125, 625, in which each figure is multiplied by the same factor (in this case 5), in order to obtain the following figure. In MLM, the end result of your geometric progression is the SUM of all the figures from all levels (in this case, 781 people in your 4th level).

It’s no coincidence that most network marketers quit within the first year and most network marketers fail. Network marketers that stick it out for a year or more usually end up becoming the new “Top Earning Heavy Hitters.”

In Network Marketing you must build your downline wide fast! Make a commitment to recruit a new member into your first level on a daily basis. Momentum is a key factor in keeping you dedicated to your efforts.

The majority of your time should be spent recruiting new people. Most programs tell you to spend your time training your downline to duplicate your efforts. Guess What? We’re all unique.

You can’t force your downline to be you. You can only help them build their own system. You’ll also get a major headache trying to work with the people that aren’t going to do anything but quit on you in a few months. Offer your help to those that are serious about growing the business.

Your business is not going to fail because your friends, family, or co-workers do not want to join you. Just accept this as normal, and that that they are not right for your opportunity at this time. Just think of the last boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse or partner you had, for instance. How did you meet them? How did you meet the current love of your life?


If you are like most people, then it was probably through the people you know. Furthermore, most people also often find the best jobs, clients, and friends through people they already know. Your business is no different.


On a parallel note, here is something that is often overlooked; the network of people who are NOT interested in your business. What about them? After all, they also know people you don’t, and for this simple reason alone, you should be interested in them.


Just because someone you approach isn’t interested in your business, does not mean that his or her friends or family will not be interested. When someone says “no” to your business, thank them for listening, let them know how committed you are to the business, and that you would have enjoyed working with them had they been interested. Then ask them if they know of anyone, a friend, a colleague, or a relative that might be interested in the opportunity. Be bold and ask their permission to contact their friends, family members, and associates. Ask them for a list of people that they think might be a good fit. You would be surprised how many prospects you can get out of a “no”. In fact, it may just make them change their own mind altogether!

Now, more than ever, people are developing relationships online, which quite often turn into relationships in person. When you first sign up for your network marketing program, you are led to believe that the path to success is very simple and you will soon be rich and financially free if you follow the teachings and guidance of your uplines. Before the availability of the online business presentations (and their counterpart cd’s and dvd’s), the most popular form of presenting to small groups of people was the living room meeting. The home meeting is ideally composed of 4 – 8 or 10 prospects and is held in a living room or family room.

Due to the popularity of home meetings and the scarcity of upline to conduct the presentations came the birth of the hotel function room meetings where prospect attendance could increae to anywhere from 25 to several hundred. Sponsors are usually charged a low room share fee of between $5 – $10 and their prospect(s) is admitted for free.

Let’s confine our discussion to conducting a successful home business presentation.

1. The Invitation. Invite up to 10 “definitely will be there” friends, family and acquaintances. Anyone that tells you “I’ll try.” Always respond that you will count that as a cannot make it and if they know for sure that they will be attending then by all means give you call. (An “I’ll try” should be a red flag to you. This is a person that cannot say no so they keep you dangling instead.) A poor showing is a message to whoever does your presenting that his presenting might be more productive in another living room rather than yours!
2. The Approach. Never deceive or beg anyone into coming. Tell them you are excited to host a business presentation right at your home. And, start edifying the presenter with a statement like “…and we are so fortunate to have ____________ doing our presentation. It will start right at 8PM, will you be able to attend? Okay, I’ll put you down as a definite. See you then. (If no, that’s too bad. If things change in your schedule, give me a call and I’ll see if we can squeeze you in.”)
3. The Day of the Meeting. Make sure you call each one of those that said they would definitely be attending. “Hi ____________, this is ____________. I’m not sure if I told you the time of our meeting tonight. It’s at 8 o’clock…I’ll see you here at 8.” Do not say that you are making a reminder call because this gives your prospect a perfect out to respond “Is it tonight? I’m sorry but I can’t possibly make it tonight, I completely forgot.”
4. Meeting. Be sure all distractions are off. No televisions, radio or music in other rooms. If you have animals, crate them away from where your guests will be. If you have small children…well be sure you have someone to watch them in another area of your home. In an ice breaker move, you should start introducing your guests to each other. Once the presenter arrives, slink into the woodwork and let him or her take control. When the presentation is ready to begin, you should introduce the presenter formally to the group and be sure to build that person up so your guests will pay more attention to what is being said. Then sit down and give the presenter your full attention.
5. Refreshments. After the presentation is over, it’s time to serve refreshments and allow your guests to chat with the presenter in order to have any question they may have, answered. Remember this is a system of duplication. Your invited prospects will look at you and keep asking themselves “Can I do what she or he is doing?” If you serve dinner or some exotic desserts, you will probably have your prospects not join your network marketing business. Not because of the presentation but they will think, I could never serve what is being served. So, make your refreshments as simple as possible: beverages (coffee and punch) and store-bought, packaged cookies (yes, cookies).

The name of the game is to allow your presenter to have full control of the evening in spite of it being your home. If you want your home based business built, the presenter will do just that…all you have to do is step aside and let him/her work their magic on your behalf.

Whenever I produce my mlm success training courses, I always tell my apprentices to make structured commitments and goals by organizing their daily, weekly, and monthly income producing activities, and make sure to track EVERYTHING.

One of my acquaintances on Facebook asked me to assist them to identify why their best efforts seem to be producing very little success in MLM. He was quite angry and ready to toss in the towel by the time he reached out to me.

He is new to MLM, and felt as though he was doing everything that he was told to do to get ahead. He thought that either he was being lied to by his support team (or he wasn’t), or he simply wasn’t cut out for this MLM business (also not true).

So, in the course of our conversation, I was able to determine exactly what was wrong with his efforts, and after I identified where his “holes” were, he was overjoyed to find out that all he had to do was make a few adjustments to his activities and his mental state of mind.

Take a look at these 3 areas that I found that he was doing wrong and make sure that you don’t fall into these traps:

1. Overstated expectations of growth – he felt that he would be an “overnight sensation” because he’s heard stories of how people make tons of revenue in what seems like a very small period of time. This is NOT normal of ANY business, contrary to all the hype. Building a successful MLM business is like planting a seed in the dirt; you can’t plant the seed and then stand over it demanding that it grow. It has to take root, and you have to provide the food and care to make sure it doesn’t die in the soil. It’s not smart to have the get-rich-quick mindset; it takes TIME to build a successful company, and there’s nothing you can do about that but cultivate patience and the right behaviors.

2. Inconsistent activity – he had not developed a schedule of planned activities for his network marketing business success. He just did whatever he could with whatever extra time he could come up with. That’s totally amateurish. Developing “office hours” is pivotal to building consistency, and that can’t be taken lightly. He planted the “seed,” now he needed to organize a regularly scheduled “watering.” If over the course of a week you only have 7-10 hours available, that needs to be a specific, targeted, pre-arranged, and non-negotiable time towards growing your company. Don’t make excuses because, if this were your occupation, you wouldn’t make excuses; or you would be unemployed. Punch in, do what you have to do, and punch out.

3. No tracking – he wasn’t keeping track on phone calls, appointments, emails, etc. No company that is interested in genuine sustainable success makes this mistake. Keeping “stats” is central to being able to measure where your strengths and weaknesses are. Most business owners haven’t figured out what their ratios are. Take a peak at this following ratio: 194:13. This is my stat for leads:conversions over the previous 30 days. I know that for ever 14 leads I acquire through my marketing, I’ll convert 1 to a business owner. My goal is to improve my stats by keeping track of everything from articles, emails, videos, phone calls, etc. It doesn’t have to be a mystery as to what it takes to get your company to the next level. “Keeping stats” is what you need in order to find out.

Just because you’re working your MLM enterprise part-time doesn’t mean that you’re excused from being a professional. Take a second look at your commitments to make sure that you’re not fooling yourself and organize yourself for success.
